We are pleased to announce that the Town issued a final letter of affirmation on December 12, 2019. The letter states that the Selectmen support the latest compromise plan to restore the Hingham Centre play area, and that the Town is committed to rebuilding it in the spring of 2020.

Thank you to Carol Meyer for her recent article on our community-led initiate to restore the Hingham Centre play area. You can follow the discussion, and weigh in on the Hingham Discussion Board on Facebook.
On Saturday, July 13th, about fifteen neighbors gathered at Mark Cullings' house at 44 Spring Street to get an update from fellow committee members, Michael Monteiro and Katie Zandbergen. After introductions, Michael delivered a presentation which included an overview of the project, and its key milestones, a review of the latest plan, and previous versions, an update on fundraising, and a discussion of next steps.
It's hard to believe that it has been a year since the Town approved the plan to restore the Hingham Centre play area during a public Board of Selectmen meeting on June 5, 2018. Although the plan was unopposed during the meeting, and unanimously approved, the Town subsequently expressed some reservations after a handful of citizens raised aesthetic concerns about the height of the proposed framed climber several months later in September.
In response, we revised the design by replacing the framed climber with a see-saw, and then shared the updated plan with the Town back in January, 2019. We have since received positive feedback, but the process has been slow moving presumably due to competing Town priorities. Read Hingham Journal Senior Reporter, Carol Britton Meyer's, latest coverage of the Hingham Centre Playground project.
We are pleased to report that the Planning Board has approved the site plan for the new Hingham Centre Playground, and the Board of Selectmen has agreed to accept a gift of funds from the community to reconstruct the playground in accordance with the site plan. In short, the Town has approved the design, and has agreed to reconstruct the playground once they receive sufficient funds from the community to do so.
After many months of working with the community, Town and State officials, and playground manufacturers and installers, we are happy to report that we need to complete just two remaining steps in order to secure Town approval for the winning design of the new Hingham Centre Playground:
In order to obtain these approvals, we must appear before the Planning Board on Monday, June 4th, and the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday, June 5th. The results of our community survey are in.
Here are some highlights:
After working closely with Town of Hingham officials, playground equipment manufactures, and local installers over many months, we are pleased to share two design options featuring play structures from Dynamo Playgrounds and BCI Burke.
After we gather and incorporate community input, we will seek final approval and estimates from the Town so we can raise the remaining funds necessary to ensure future generations can enjoy Hingham Centre Playground for years to come. |
